KC Chronicles
Ray Merritt
The KC Chronicles is a series of children's books (ages 5 to 9) narrated by KC, a yellow lab, who lives with the author in Sag Harbor, Long Island,
N.Y. Each book is illustrated by a renowned artist, present or past. They tell stories of living, loving and laughing as they can only be observed
from a canine perspective.
The first volume is entitled KC at the Reins: The Year Christmas Went to the Dogs. It recalls the year that KC and her friends (including Sammie, the cat) had to fill
in for an ailing St. Nick and his seven even more ill reindeer. Their exciting and often hilarious adventure begins at the North Pole
and ends in Miami. This book also serves to introduce the protagonists for subsequent books: Fozzie, an irrepressible, always outspoken
albeit somewhat annoying, Jack Russell, who is featured in the second volume, Don't Throw Me No Bones, a canine tongue-in-jaw diatribe on the
unfairness of clichés, and Winifred, a part-wolf, part-Siberian Husky single mother, who is the heroine of Winifred the Wolf, an adventurous journey
through the American Northwest by Winifred and her pups. The other characters in the series include: Chester, an elegant Dalmation whose
suburban adventures take him to many of man's most alluring watering holes -- Miami, St. Tropez and New York; Dribbles, a good-natured but
often challenged boxer, whose friendly intentions invariably create havoc; Perky, a self-indulgent and conceited pit bull, whose heart
finally outmuscles his vanity; Pamela, a long-suffering poodle whose grace and beauty overcome more than her fair share of
adversity; and Puff and Scruff, brother and sister Great Danes, who are working out their sibling rivalry, often in the midst of great adventure.
Each of the Chronicles series is narrated by KC and illustrated by a guest artist.
